This & That Including What Ails

Dental Work Is Akin To Road Works

on December 31, 2014

I am one of those that is needing a dentist every 3 to 4 months. Sigh!

Not because I chomp on sweets and all things sugary and nice BUT I have an underlying autoimmune disease that causes my gums to go to war every now and then! Aaargh!

So my “best” pal is also my trusty dentist, Dr Chua Chee Haow.

I have known Dr Chua for a while and let me say that he has seen me through so many operations he tends to banter with me on subject of “pain” 😉

I could not consult him this quarter as I was told he had surgery!

So I had to postpone my dental treatment for this quarter.

When I finally saw him today, he showed me his stitched up elbow!

Now my turn to poke him a little as he always teases me on my surgery. His brand of sardonic humor!

I asked who ‘bit’ him or who did he ‘elbow’

His rely, ‘ a woman in Taipei bit me and wound got infected as the woman was infectious!’

Ya right, I said. Probably an anaconda considering the deep gash!

We laughed. He told me literally he was bitten by something and the wound would not heal and thankfully after 5 surgeries with skin graft it healed.

He went to the hospital opposite his clinic and was impressed with the speed he was seen and warded within minutes.

I told him he was lucky he did not get flesh eating bug.

As he did dental treatment for me he reminded me my gums would be raw!

“You will feel pain, but then you know you are alive” – profound but true when I heard it.

“My leg is treating your gums” – skin or flesh implant from his leg went to his elbow. “If I itch at elbow I scratch my leg”

He then continued, ” I am doing roadworks on your gums! Drill, scrape and then tar” LOL!

I told him about my jobless situation and he empathized. He is kind and his reply (sardonic humor at its best) to my comment that I did not wish to collude with my ex boss and run foul of law, ” free dental work in prison, free board and food!”

“Idiot” I rebutted.

We parted after he dispensed my meds and in another quarter would meet again for road works in my mouth and do battle of wits with him again 😉

Meanwhile take care Dr Chua.

Wounds take time to heal so meanwhile be good and continue irritating your patients 😀

Autoimmune issues are a drag. They can’t be cured, just managed. It’s awful living your life through managing every day. Thank goodness for advances in modern medicine, or else I wouldn’t be raging against the machine today.

I hope your mouth stops being sore soon. Lucky you have such a nice dentist 🙂
