It is the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims before their Hari Raya Puasa.
Ramadan is when Muslims fast or “Puasa” and I admire their faith to fast from dawn to dusk without food or water.
It is also a time where bazaars are set up for Muslims to shop as their festivity of Hari Raya Puasa will occur near month end. New clothes, cookies and furnishings etc for their new year is much needed.
So, when I found out that there was a bazaar happening at Tampines Hub, off I went with mum and dad.
My new adventure for Day 2 of work freedom.
I met a social entrepreneur selling her home baked cookies.
Ranging from $6 to $16, she had really colorful cookies for sale.
Mum bought a tub of the colorful love letters rolled into rosettes in below photo. $10! Mum loved it after sampling it.
Loads of makeshift stalls all selling cookies or clothes.
Some hailed from Yemen, Spain, Malaysia, Batam and Brunei.
It was really fun catching the photos of stall holders at their stalls.
Below is an array of local Malay cakes.
Above is a packet of Roti John, french loaf sliced half, buttered and pan fried with egg.
This to me is the equivalent of french toast albeit in Indian Muslim style! (*oops my mum’s finger got caught in the frame of my photos as she was excited seeing the old Malay treats)
The famous Ramlee Burger from Malaysia set up stall too and long queues formed for their burgers. 4 for $10!
And their best seller, fried banana fritters or we say in Malay, goreng pisang.
The other stall that had a long queue was meat wraps sold by an Israeli. His knife slicing skills was very good as slivers of the meats went nicely into wraps.
Tired but happy mum, dad and I tottered home after a simple dinner of hawker food at the food court there.

I love food markets, yours looks really interesting. We have a wonderful European one that visits every couple of months, things like Turkish baclava, German cured meat, French crepes and chocolates…I shall have to get my son to take some pictures next time it’s here! 🙂 xxx

She did! These are what we call social entrepreneurs who run their own business and apart from adhoc pop up bazzaar stalls their main stream of sales is through online orders. She is enterprising indeed!☺

In my lil red dot we have 4 major ethnic groups and Muslim is one. We are all Singaporeans and we love and respect each other’s religious practice. I have many Muslim friends☺
