Feasting With Family #3

Last Friday sis took us to The Scholar Chinese Restaurant for dinner.

There was no available table till 8.15pm as the hot special Peking Duck was back.

We had for starters:

1. winter melon soup double boiled with pork.

2. Stir fried Garoupa fillet in truffle oil and asparagus

3. Stir fried mexican beans with minced pork. Since I loved veggies we ordered a giant serving at $24. I managed to take a photo of it below.

4. Peking duck whose skin is slivered and wrapped in crepe, eaten with the special dipping sauce and with a slice of cucumber and scallion.

5. Pork ribs in kumquat sauce.

6. The peking duck cooked claypot style with snow peas and beancurd.

7 Dessert we had yam paste with sago.

Yummy! Total cost $200.

    sounds so delicious and is that a fairly average price by Singapore standards?

      Happy New Year’s Gina. $50 to $75 is on average for a sit down Chinese Dinner but without shellfish like lobsters or prawns etc as I am averse to crustaceans and shellfish. Typically with shellfish 1 or 2 dishes cost on average is $498 or $598. So it depends where you dine and what dishes are ordered. A 300gm sea bass steamed is about $68 I was told by the waitress but seeing then alive in tanks there and steamed dead in front of me was not appealing and so we avoided the fish

        we can get by on RM 200 for a group of 6 and all the seafood you can eat and maybe an average of 8 dishes in a not so glam restaurant. the thing is here, the tastier meals are from the understated places and we are big on taste!! ughh i don’t like live cooking shows at my table either. once in sau paulo they brought the entire lamb out, head and all and carved at our table, put me off meat the entire meal!!

          I envy your cost of living there and good food in Malaysia. A lot of us lil red dotters throng your restaurants just to eat! Buffet is passe here as we are advocating against food waste and it costs a bomb to eat buffet at SGD120++ per head or cheapest at SGD75++. Too much and how much can one stomach ingest really LOL. Though I know of some strategic eaters who love their Alaskan King Crab claws, oysters and mussels including prawns!
